The adoption of green energy technologies: The role of policies in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland

We contribute to the existing research about policy-induced technology adoption in several ways. First, we suggest a new survey design to measure the energy-related policy environment. Second, we simultaneously estimate the policy effects for the adoption propensity and the adoption intensity simultaneously and, third, we compare the policy effects in the three countries, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Based on a representative sample of firms for all three countries we find that policies essentially promote the adoption of technologies and they are practically ineffective for the intensity, which poses a great challenge to future policy designs. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DIFFUSE AND TOTAL SOLAR RADIATION IN COMPUTER SIMULATION OF SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS

ABSTRACT The diffuse to total radiation correlation developed by Liu and Jordan [1] was tested for three Italian locations. An acceptable agreement was found between the regression lines in [1] and the ones found for two of the three locations. Using measured hourly values of total solar radiation on a horizontal surface, the corresponding hourly values of total solar radiation on an inclined surface at 45° facing south were computed with both the Liu and Jordan and the Loudon [6] method for estimating the diffuse radiation. The 2030 policy framework for climate and energy, proposed by the European Commission, aims towards the reduction of European greenhouse gas emissions by 40% in comparison to the 1990 level and to increase the share of renewable energy of at least the 27% of the European's energy consumption of 2030. Effects of Onshore and Offshore Environmental Parameters on the Leading Edge Erosion of Wind Turbine Blades: A Comparative Study

Abstract The presence of rain-induced leading edge erosion of wind turbine blades (WTBs) necessitates the development of erosion models. One of the essential parameters for erosion modeling is the relative impact velocity between rain droplets and the rotating blade. Based on this parameter, the erosion damage rate of a WTB is calculated to estimate the expected leading edge lifetime. The environmental conditions that govern this parameter have site-specific variations, and thus, rain and wind loading on a turbine differ for onshore and offshore locations. The impact of grain size on the efficiency of embedded SIMD image processing architectures

Pixel-per-processing element (PPE) ratio-the amount of image data directly mapped to each processing element-has a significant impact on the area and energy efficiency of embedded SIMD architectures for image processing applications.
